Access the Raspberry Pi Through your smartphone

The idea of ​​this post is to use the smartphone as a tool for quick access to the Raspberry Pi . Whether for installing packages, updating the operating system, starting or stopping a service, etc. After all, smartphones today are tools and are always at hand. For you to access the Raspberry Pi from your smartphone , you need to download an SSH client . There are several good quality customers available. In this tutorial, we will use Termius . The process will be similar for other customers.

Necessary material

To carry out this project, we will need:

  • Raspberry Pi
  • MicroSd Memory Card
  • 5V source
  • Android smartphone

For security reasons, SSH is not enabled by default in Raspbian.

It can be enabled manually on the desktop:

Choose Menu , then Preferences and select Raspberry Pi Configuration .

Navigate to the Interfaces tab , select Enabled (Enable) next to SSH and click OK .

Or at the terminal, using raspi-config : Type sudo raspi-config in a terminal window.

Select the Interfacing Options .

Select SSH .

Choose Yes .

Choose Ok .

To configure Termius we will need the IP address of the Raspberry Pi, if you don’t know its IP address, type hostname -I in the terminal.

On smartphone

Make download Termius on your smartphone, if you have not installed, and tap to open the application.

Touch Continue without Account .

Touch the button with the “+” symbol in the lower right corner, as shown in the image below.

Then, tap New Host .

Enter a nickname ( Alias ), for example Raspberry Pi. Then, enter the Raspberry Pi IP address ( Hostname or IP Address ).

Fill in the username ( Username ) and password ( Password ) and tap the sign in the upper right corner, as in the image below. The default Raspbian username is pi and the raspberry password .

Touch the new entry ( Raspberry Pi ) once. A security warning will be displayed. Do not worry, everything is fine. Click Connect . This warning will only appear the first time Termius connects to a device it has never seen before.

Finally, the Raspberry Pi command prompt appears.

To close the terminal window, just type exit .

The paid version of Termius has other features, such as autocomplete and parallel command execution.
